Teacher is Put on Leave for Racial Slur During Class Discussion

After over 1300 people signed a document, a teacher in Virginia is banned from the classroom. During a class discussion the teacher used the N word while talking about terms throughout history. I think that a teacher not being able to teach based on this is absurd, yes I think that racial slurs are offensive and should not be tolerated anywhere especially in the school system but where do you draw the line as educators? A school should not include this in the curriculum if it will risk someones job to teach it. Its also interesting to me that she is teaching history, no matter the circumstance history is history, and it happened. It should be taught, no one can change how terrible racism was and segregation was, but we should still learn where we came from. There were also questions brought up in an AP history class at the same school about the Redskins, one of the students took great offense to it, and The teacher is now on paid leave until it is decided if she can enter the classroom again. I don't think this is promoting a safe learning environment, especially for teachers.
